When I was a young school boy, I genuinely believed that the reason I got the highest term end score in the class was because God fulfilled my prayers. Even up to high school I was still the self-centered, child-like enough to think that if it wasn’t for the consecutive dhuha prayers I did during the recess after the 3rd period, I wouldn’t have made it to ITB, let alone Japan.

However beautiful an object is, a repeated exposure to said beauty would dilute the appreciation. Once the object has become a fixture of the subject’s environment, aesthetics considerations are lost.

School is great but now everything I write have to be top-down. Easy to digest. Good diction of course, and no bad grammar. Again, school is great, but now I have to make sure that everything that came out of my mouth are comprehended. Misunderstanding plagues my decision making. I am obsessed with having everyone understands and me understanding what I’m saying. “To be unbound by the rules of literature,” to crudely paraphrase a book I’m reading, is but a dream. This education has enriched and has stifled.

Today I had to work extra hours to make up for yesterday finishing paper reviews. Rested after work a bit, baked some cookies, and boom it’s already past 12am.

Finally got pho/etry out

It took sometimes but the new zine I’m working on with Nada finally got done. The title’s the same, pho/etry, not to be mistaken with the popular traditional Vietnamese dish.
